Integrated Digital Platform Engineering for A Global Pharma & Clinic Network

Our Clients

Engagement Overview

Our client is a global pharmaceutical leader serving patients through a mix of clinic networks, brands, and digital touchpoints. Over time, its digital ecosystem grew into more than 30 web and mobile properties, each with its own logic, release rhythm, and user experience. This fragmentation made it difficult to support clinic agents, engage patients in a personalized way, and stay fully compliant with strict healthcare regulations.

TechBlocks was engaged as the digital engineering partner to unify this landscape. We transformed disconnected portals and apps into an integrated platform with a headless architecture, modern clinic tools, personalized patient experiences, and built-in HIPAA and GxP traceability. The outcome was a digital stack that moved faster, supported clinics more effectively, and met regulatory expectations.

Key Challenges

The client’s digital estate was large, complex, and siloed. Backend logic was duplicated across properties, clinic agents worked in outdated tools.

The patient apps offered generic experiences that left engagement on the table. Regulatory audits also exposed gaps in traceability, putting both compliance and release speed at risk.

Fragmented Platforms & Duplicated Logic

Across more than 30 web and mobile properties, backend logic was duplicated and managed in isolation. There was no central platform strategy, which led to inconsistent experiences, heavier maintenance overhead, and slow, staggered release cycles. Brand and content changes had to be repeated across multiple systems, driving up cost and risk.

Outdated Clinic Portals with Limited Visibility

Clinic agents relied on outdated portals that were difficult to navigate and did not provide real-time visibility into patient and operational data. These tools slowed the ability of agents to support patients, added friction to daily workflows, and made it harder for clinics to respond quickly to issues or opportunities.

One-Size-Fits-All Patient Experiences

On the patient side, apps delivered a single, generic experience regardless of behavior, needs, or treatment journey. There was little personalization or use of behavioral signals, which meant the platform missed opportunities to engage users with meaningful insights, support, and content that matched their context.

Compliance & Audit Traceability Gaps

Regulatory audits exposed gaps in HIPAA and GxP traceability across key systems. Audit trails were incomplete, validation steps were manual, and compliance checkpoints were not consistently embedded into the release process. This created risk for the business and slowed down deployments that required documented, repeatable validation.

Approach & Solutions

1. Unify 30+ Properties on a Headless Architecture

We started by understanding the full digital footprint, then defined an architecture that reduced duplication and centralized core capabilities while preserving brand flexibility.

  • Conducted a comprehensive platform audit across more than 30 web and mobile properties to identify duplication, shared patterns, and consolidation opportunities.
  • Designed and implemented a headless CMS-backed architecture for scalable brand and content management across multiple sites and apps.
  • Consolidated seven web portals into a single unified platform with modular APIs that exposed shared services and business logic.
  • Created reusable components and services to reduce ongoing maintenance and accelerate future product and feature launches.

2. Modernize Clinic Portals with Secure, Role-Based Access

We then focused on the tools that clinic agents used every day, making them faster, more intuitive, and fully traceable.

  • Rebuilt internal clinic tools and portals with modern UI patterns that aligned with how agents actually worked.
  • Implemented role-based access control (RBAC) so agents, supervisors, and administrators only saw the data and actions appropriate to their roles.
  • Added full audit trails across key workflows to capture who did what and when, meeting GxP and internal governance requirements.
  • Integrated clinic tools with underlying data sources to provide unified, real-time views that reduced context switching and manual data lookups.

3. Analytic-Driven Patient Experience Personalization

With the platform and clinic tools on stronger ground, we turned to the patient-facing experience to make it more relevant and engaging.

  • Introduced analytics-driven personalization into patient apps using behavioral segmentation and usage patterns.
  • Defined behavioral segments based on in-app activity, preferences, and engagement signals to tailor content and support.
  • Configured patient journeys so insights, reminders, and features surfaced in ways that matched each user’s needs rather than a static, generic flow.
  • Instrumented apps with the data needed to measure effectiveness and refine personalization strategies over time.

4. Compliance-Focused Release Governance

Finally, we addressed the regulatory gaps by baking compliance into the release lifecycle rather than treating it as a separate, manual step.

  • Established a unified release governance layer that standardized how changes were planned, validated, and deployed across platforms.
  • Integrated validation hooks into the release pipeline so GxP and HIPAA compliance checkpoints were executed and documented for every deployment.
  • Ensured 100% GxP-compliant audit trails across critical tools and workflows, improving transparency during regulatory audits.
  • Created patterns and templates for future releases so compliance and traceability remained consistent as the platform evolved.

Impact & Results

TechBlocks moved the client from a fragmented digital estate to a unified, governed platform that served both clinics and patients more effectively.

The organization shipped changes faster, clinic agents worked in modern tools with integrated data, resulting in a 35% increase in productivity, and compliance teams gained confidence in traceability and audit readiness.

7

Unified web platforms

Web portals were consolidated into a single unified platform backed by modular APIs. This simplified maintenance, reduced duplication of logic, and made it easier to roll out consistent updates and experiences across brands and regions.

3x

Faster app deployments

App deployment timelines improved from 12 weeks to 4 weeks, a threefold acceleration. The combination of headless architecture and unified release governance allowed product and engineering teams to move quickly while staying within regulatory guardrails.

100%

Regulatory compliance

The new governance and tooling delivered 100% GxP-compliant audit trails across the modernized systems. Compliance teams had complete visibility into changes and user actions, which reduced audit risk and made regulatory reviews more predictable.
