Reimagining the Connected Car Experience for One of the World’s Largest Automakers

Challenges

Our client, a leading global automaker, needed a next-generation Connected Services Platform to power in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems and mobile applications with real-time car data. Their existing three-year-old platform lacked the scalability, security, and performance to support millions of connected vehicles and new data-intensive use cases. The legacy system could not handle concurrent vehicle connections, ingest sensor or GPS data, or scale across multiple models. Security safeguards were limited, uptime targets were not met, and responsiveness fell short of driver expectations. They needed a future-ready platform that could deliver real-time intelligence, personalized digital experiences, and advanced telematics at global scale.

Solutions

TechBlocks was chosen to design and deliver a fully modernized Connected Services Platform, built for scalability, performance, and security from the ground up. Our solutions approach consisted of:

Engineering a real-time data ingestion and inference engine to power telematics features such as scheduled remote start/stop, driver safety scoring, AI-based recommendations, and geofencing
Integrating live traffic, weather, and POI services with secure, payment-enabled features like parking reservations
Expanding real-time vehicle health analytics to include door status, tire pressure, battery, fuel level, and additional sensor-driven insights
Designing the architecture with backward compatibility for existing APIs, a minimum 99.99% uptime SLA, and the ability to scale beyond 1 million concurrent vehicle connections

Device Lifecycle, Security, & Operations

Shipping connected devices is only the beginning. Long-term security, reliability, and cost control determine whether IoT programs succeed or fail. We harden devices with environmental, interoperability, and security testing, then keep them current with cryptographically signed OTA updates, staged rollouts, canaries, and rollback. We also optimize battery life and operating cost with duty-cycling, sleep strategies, and adaptive sampling tuned to real-world usage, supported by accelerators like device simulators, interoperability test suites, OTA canary frameworks, and edge inference toolkits that reduce risk and speed validation.
